Indonesian soprano Madeline Saputra (2000) is based in Amsterdam and actively performs across the Netherlands. This season, she will make her debut as the main role in Jonathan Dove’s Uprising with Opera Zuid and Dutch National Opera.

Madeline is passionate about singing and performing different genres in various forms. She has worked in transdisciplinary projects, collaborating closely with directors, composers, and performers. With Apollon Kalamenios, the duo is known for their prize-winning work “Keroncong Anemoia” in International Vocal Competition (IVC), and was mentioned in the Dutch newspaper NRC:

“In a beautiful program ‘Keroncong Anemoia – Letters of a Javanese Princess’ they interweaved Western classical Lied with letters from the early Javanese feminist Raden Adjeng Kartini (hypnotizingly voiced by Saputra herself) and Indonesian keroncong. That in combination with the subtle, bright, somewhat wistful soprano sound of Saputra, earned the duo three prizes.”

Throughout her career, she has sung in Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, and festivals such as Holland Festival, O. Festival, Opera Forward Festival, Grachtenfestival, and many more. She is part of Vrienden van het Lied and jonge Grote Zangers. In 2023, she was one of the winners of the Eva Kleinitz Opera Europa Competition.
